A Penthouse project update, late October
Long story short, I was trying to drill some holes into the TV cabinet to hide the cables and the drill just couldn't go through the wood - which isn't even real wood, it's just some soft chipboard! - and my spouse came in, I explained the problem to him and asked if he could figure out a solution, to which he smiled and simply said:
Of course it's not working, you're using screw gun. You need a power drill. Let's get you one tomorrow.
Well. Yeah. No Wonder. How did I not realize this myself?
Let's not dwell on my stupidity and rather move on to new news regarding the Penthouse:
- The headboard! I cut the fabric and used a stapler to attach it to the soft acoustic boards I found at the hardware store. I hadn't calculated how much fabric I would need when I bought it (I had no idea I would be upholstering four individual pieces, not one large piece) and two of the panels have less overlap in the back. But it's all right, I'll put those two in the middle. Now I just need to mark on the wall where the boards go and attach them with removable tape.
- The sconce got a new bulb! The first bulb was definitely too bright, even as a reading light, but the new one is more ambient and gentle. I have no idea how one is supposed to read in it, though.
- I'm seriously considering getting a new cushion cover for the one singular sofa cushion we have. And since I have some excess fabric from the headboard, I might as well use that. Not only is the fabric gorgeous and goes well in the living room as well, using it would also nicely create some cohesion between the two rooms.
- I now have a power drill! Drilling in the TV cabinet is still not easy, I'm constantly worried that the drill will suddenly go through and I won't be ready and I'll lose my balance or something, but it'll get there. And it's definitely better than the screw gun, I'll tell you that.
- I've begun the process of hiding other cables and cords as well. I placed a designer pot in front of a huge bunch of them; I just need a plant to go into the pot, it's a little too low to be a complete success. Next, I'm going to buy some cable channels for individual cables.
All in all, if anything, greatness is coming at great speed.
