I watched Second Act

I've been watching a lot of movies lately. Too much, I would say. So much that I'm getting sick of it. I'd like to do something more productive with my time. I think I'll have a break from movies for a while. But until I do, let's discuss one movie I saw last week.

Second Act (2018) is apparently a bad movie about a woman in her 40s who gets a highly paid corporate job under false pretense. And while I, too, thought the movie was predictale and often boring, it had some wisdom in there. Some inspiring wisdom, in fact.

Second Act reminds the viewer that he can choose who he is.

You don't have to be the nerdy one you were in high school. You don't have to go to law school like your parents want you to. You don't have to be brunette, down to Earth, interested in politics, a good person, intelligent, funny, or responsible.

You can reinvent your identity whenever you want, to whatever you want it to be.

Your work is not your identity, so don't feel obliged to stay on a job you hate.

Your education is not your identity, so get a new one or ditch formal education altogether if you want to.

Your looks are not your identity, so change them up however you like.

Your hobbies are not your identity, so switch them to ones that motivate you to become who you want to be.

Your house is not your identity. Live however you want.

If you're not happy with the way things are - if you feel like your life doesn't match your identity - shake things up. Update everything that seems off to match your current identity. Only then will you feel at peace.

And remember, if your identity later changes, you can change those items in your life whenever you want to match the new identity.
