I'm reading Goethe's Faust

For general knowledge and as research for my novel, I'm reading Goethe's Faust. So far, I have two observations:

First, I understand why Faust made the wager. He was bored. He thought there had to be more to life than what he was experiencing. Any solution is a good solution at that point.

...and second, as became apparent almost immediately afterwards, I think Faust has made a huge mistake.

(Third, my German isn't good enough to read the original, but the English translation is amazing. I love the verse form. It sounds so lively and musical.)
