It happened

In the previous article, I talked about how people were going crazy over toilet paper and how I initially didn't want to get in a position where the stores couldn't cater to my every need. Then I changed my mind and actually wanted the stores to run out of things I wanted, like Häagen-Dazs. I wished to be forced to adapt and go outside my comfort zone.

Well, I got my wish.

While the store had more than enough of a wide range of differently flavored Häagen-Dazs, they didn't have the particular brands of butter and eggs that I use. I had to compromise and settle for a new brand. Fair enough - it's still the same product, I was still within the comfort zone.

However, they didn't have any ground beef.

I had assumed that the first foods the stores would run out of with the hoarding people would be goods with a long shelf life, like canned food and dry pasta and such. And yes, there weren't much of those, or frozen veggies even. But beef? All red meat products? I thought the world was going vegan. (Mind you, there was plenty of poultry left.)

So I didn't get my meat, which was inconvenient and made me a little anxious. I really wanted a burger. And now, it looks like I might have to live off the eggs of the wrong brand, which is fine because I like eggs and my body digests them well. I bought 18, which should last me at least three days.

Now, I realize this still isn't much. I haven't had to adjust drastically to the situation. I can live and have lived on eggs and butter, so if they ran out of those as well, things would be different.

Hopefully I get to challenge my snobbish side even more in the coming months.
