Time blocking || Morning routines to reach any goal

We're back with the Morning routines to reach any goal article series! It's time for part 3, and we're talking about something we've mentioned before: time blocking. And let me tell you, if you didn't know already: this routine will change your life.

Time blocking, as profoundly explained by Gary Keller and Jay Papasan in their book The One Thing, is about diving your day in blocks of four hours and devoting those blocks uninterruptedly to a worthy task. When you're immersed in a work-related time block, nothing, not email, phone, people, TV, anything, should distract you. You get shit done during those four hours. When the block is over, you can have a more interactive block, with meetings and phone calls and email responses.

When it comes to the killer morning routine we've devoted this week's WIP articles to, you should integrate the time blocking theory to your mornings by starting your first time block of the day right after you finish your getting-up-from-the-bed and waking-yourself-up acts, more of which to come later this week. But once you're awake, once you've done your mental preparing process of coffee and goal setting et cetera, you should immediately begin your first 4-hour time block. It can be from 6 to 10 am or from 4 to 8 am or some other timeframe, depending on when you wake up. The key thing is that you don't choose just any time block. You don't choose the "interactive" time block, and you definitely don't choose the "Netflix and chill" time block.

You choose your "one thing" time block.

Your one thing - the activity that pushes you forward towards the deepest desire of your heart, the biggest thing you want to achieve in life - should without a doubt the biggest frog on your list of things to get done during the day. I don't care if you have a job interview or a big speech or if you're going to the bank to ask for a loan. Wake up so early that you get your "one thing" time block over with before going to the interview/speech/bank. (Unless, of course, that interview/speech/bank is the biggest frog of the day, the one thing that has the biggest effect on your goal reaching path.)

Get it done. Every day. In your first time block.

If you don't, you'll get stuck forever.
