What is left in the Penthouse project?
When it comes to the Penthouse project, my plan was to finish everything major by the end of autumn, so that I could enjoy the place in my December holiday without having to do any DIY's anymore. The truth is that I've come quite far: I've built bookcases, some with hidden TV's inside; I've procured and hung a glorious modern chandelier that is perfect for the vibe of the place; I changed the closet and drawer handles to modernly elegant brass ones; we have a wine cooler; the bathroom has luxury shower products hung elegantly on the wall, and I've hid the pipes under the sink with a vanity; the divan is gorgeously dark green now; the bedroom has an exquisite piece of art on the wall and a bespoke headboard; and all greenery we have is real.
But what else is there to do? How could I elevate the place even higher?
- I would love for there to be a sunbed on the balcony next summer. The balcony is my spouse's domain, but perhaps he can fit one into his plans.
- There's also the case of the missing nightstands, but so far, our barstools have done the job quite well.
- The foyer could use some sort of table, shelf, or ledge for keys.
- I'm still dreaming of a new kitchen backsplash. Everything about the room is otherwise perfect, but the tile is old, boring, white, and too large to my taste.
- We have excess computers lying around.
- I want to hide cables on the wall with channels.
- We have a fake fur blanket that used to look great in my office, but in the Penthouse, it just looks fake. I may have to get rid of it or figure out a better way to make use of it.
- Speaking of fake things... apparently, the upholstery in our armchair is not all leather. Only the part where you sit is, otherwise it's fake leather. I don't like fake leather. Perhaps for this reason, or for some other, I've grown to resent the armchair - it's too big for the place it's in, it's too black, too 80's for the otherwise modern classic look of the place. I don't know what to do with it, though - it wasn't cheap and there's a huge sunk cost fallacy bias in my head.
- There are some extra jute boxes lying around with absolutely no purpose whatsoever.
- Also, sometime in the future, I'd like to make the wine cooler more integrated with the rest of the kitchen. Right now, it's just sitting on the floor. But there's no rush to do this.
- Also also... I was dreaming of blanking out the middle of our living room bookcase and putting a (fake) fireplace there, with an art TV hanging above it. And covering another wall in the living room area with bookcases. It would create such mood and cohesion in the place!
- I'd also want a new cushion cover (made of the headboard fabric) for the singular cushion on the living room sofa, and maybe a long, leather tube cushion in the bedroom.
- And if we're dreaming like crazy, I'd like to see what the living room could look like with high-end curtains, or maybe even painted walls.
- We'd also need a full length mirror somewhere better than leaning against the wall in the bedroom where people walk past it all the time and risk knocking it over.
Realistically, though, what I might still get done this month, before the holidays...
- Get rid of the excess computers.
- Get rid of the jute boxes.
- Install cable channels.
- Solve the fake fur blanket dilemma.
- Make a cushion cover for the sofa cushion.
- Maybe get the leather cushion for the bed.
...and if we're being unrealistic...
7. Make the foyer key table.
8. Get rid of the armchair.
9. Get rid of the full length mirror.
I dunno. I'm kind of tired right now.
