I know at least two people who live in a self-written tragedy. What I mean by this is that they choose to see everything around them from the point of view of a victim. If there's a misunderstanding with a store, for example, they see it as the store trying deliberately to rip them off. Here are some examples of real life situations with them:
- After exclaiming that I love this particular drink, person 1 was convinced to buy a bottle of Abyss, the Leclerc Briant champagne that has spent a year at the bottom of the Atlantic. They tried to find out about the submerging process from the store's website later, couldn't find anything, and told me about it with the mentality of having been conned. (I showed them the specs on the vineyard's website, where all the data could be found.)
- I once had a Kinder egg without a toy inside, but as karma would have it, got eight double-yolk chicken eggs in a 10-egg carton the same week. I told person 2 about this. They didn't appreciate the net-positive karma in my favor, only pointed out how the candy company were so greedy that they had decided to waste no money on quality control.
I wonder if they realize that they have chosen this mentality because it gives them meaning in life.
I wonder if I ever used to be like that.
