It's another glorious December day! I hope you've been having a great month so far full of holiday cheer! We've now crossed the halfway mark, but worry not - there's still plenty of time to enjoy our WIP Advent Calendar before Christmas Day!
Today is December 16th, and the 16th door of the calendar reveals...
A psychological quote!
I've chosen a quote from Austrian psychologist Otto Rank, and it goes like this:
Some refuse the loan of life to avoid the debt of death.
You can interpret this however you want, but for me, the message is clear: some people think that if they don't fully live - as in, if they merely exist during their "life"time - they think they won't die when they die. In other words, if you die when you live, you won't die when you die; if you don't really live, you have nothing to lose to death.
It's an effective coping mechanism - until the moment of your death arrives, and you realize you wasted the most valuable gift you've ever received. (Or so I would imagine. My plan is to never find out.)
