I finished Phantom, Sleeper, and Vegan on the same day

A fun day - while playing fetch with our dog (though he doesn't quite understand how to play it), I finished reading three of the books in the infamous pile: The Phantom of the Opera, The Sleeper Awakes, and Why Vegan?.

This was completely unplanned! What a fun surprise! Here are some thoughts:

  1. The Phantom was an excellent novel. I can't wait to see the opera version.
  2. I had high hopes for The Sleeper - the premise was quite promising - but it disappointed me a little, both the style of writing and the plot itself.
  3. Though Why Vegan failed to turn me into a vegan and though it sounded quite propagandist, I did buy one package of organic beef instead of my regular brand while reading it. I reasoned that if I could taste the higher quality (the cattle having eaten only grass instead of grains), I could justify paying the double price. It tasted the same. I continue to live in ignorant bliss.

Books still left in the pile include You Are the Placebo, A Pattern Language, Faust Part Two, The Koran, and some math and physics books. (I'm obviously also reading The Complete Calvin and Hobbes, but that goes without saying.)

RK out.
