I've been dabbling with body type and color analysis stuff for years now. First I found out that my undertone is cool, so silver and cold colors look better on me than gold and warm ones. Then I took the Kibbe test and came to the conclusion that my body type is Dramatic Classic. But when it came to colors, it always baffled me to think that I would be a Summer. Sure, I was cool toned, but I looked great in pure white and black and all dark colors, so was I not a Winter? I mean, Summers look great in pastels and I look horrible in pastels!
Well, I figured it out: I am a True Summer. This explains why something about my appearance has been bugging me for the past few years. You see, I've been getting highlights, which make my hair slightly lighter and warmer than it is naturally, causing me to look more like a Soft Summer. But I'm not a Soft Summer. I look best when there's contrast between my hair and skin. This becomes evident if you look at my old YouTube videos: I look best with my natural hair color, the cool dark blonde, and no tan. When I have soft, highlighted hair, and a summer tan, I look weird.
Duh!
Furthermore, as I looked at those videos, I realized that dark gray and a muted dark blue look infinitely better on me than pure black.
So now I've decided to grow out my natural hair color and never to highlight it again. I've also decided to be more specific about the cut I want at the hairdresser's. And I now know which colors to wear: muted cool colors, even cool pastels, although I need to be careful not to choose soft cool pastels, since they don't fit my Dramatic Classic essence. Dark, muted, cool colors are best for me, as well as a cool-toned slight off-white.
Everything became extra clear when I found this article online and saw that the only color on the list that I could successfully pull off was the mint green one. I even own a pajama set in that color, and I love it. It's so refreshing, like a plunge into a cool lake on an early summer morning.
On the one hand, this is great, I know now what works.
On the other hand, this all makes me want to rebuild my wardrobe and makeup bag from scratch.
