I mentioned last week that I had some ice cream after not having any dairy for a while. I also mentioned that it was glorious. I also also mentioned that the side effects were horrendous.
So, naturally, I kept eating ice cream for a few days more. After all, we had some leftovers in the freezer. And the side effects did not take long to get accustomed to.
Only when I looked at myself in the mirror on Saturday did I realize that my body had already begun to pay the price for the so-called gloriousness.
I quit both sugar and dairy right away and reverted to pears as the means to satisfy the occasional sweet tooth. Since Saturday (it's Tuesday now), I've had plenty of meat, rotisserie chicken, tuna, bacon, and eggs. And pears.
Yet, obviously, nothing much has happened with respect to my body in three days.
And this, dear reader, is the test.
Not seeing results immediately is a big reason why people quit projects they've just started. I, too, felt discouraged this morning when going through my morning routine in the bathroom. Dry hair that no amount of hydrating products could salvage (even the shade was dull); face still breaking out in little zits; the shape of my face widened of bloating; and skin so sunburned that no amount of makeup could mask the redness.
If I can both do the right thing (stay away from sugar and dairy) and stand this inbetweener phase where positive results aren't yet here to encourage me to do the right thing, I'll make it through to the other side - and, hopefully, beyond.
