My unstoppable decluttering project hits an immovable obstacle

You don't know it yet, but on Monday's episode of The Weekly Wyat, I'll mention that I've been decluttering my spaces lately. I had some success with this at the office, and with the confidence that came with it, I'm now moving on to blanking out my home. I already changed the fabrics from summery green to autumnal grey, and though that's not exactly decluttering, it still made a huge difference to the ambiance. After the fabrics, it was time to get rid of excess junk.

By which I mean trash, and definitely not my Lego builds, though those seem to be the biggest obstacle when it comes to decluttering.

After all, I have so many Lego builds.

I had already stored several of them away from sight, but man - the Gringotts was still there, magnificently taking space, and the lighthouse, and Home Alone, and the OG Hogwarts set.

I'm NOT getting rid of them. But I admit that I could store all of them away for a while.

However, not all of them fit in the shelving unit where I'd stored my other sets.

But I do want to declutter. I desperately want to declutter!

To solve this dilemma, I think I might to the unthinkable: break the builds into chunks and store them in their original boxes in the basement.

Here are the pros of doing this:

  1. The Legos will be out of sight, which will perhaps be the most noticeable step in decluttering the home.
  2. I won't have to get rid of them, they'll be safe in the basement.
  3. When I find them there again later, it'll be a wonderful surprise.
  4. There will be more space for other things in the shelving unit.

The cons:

  1. I have to break the builds into chunks, which never goes as smoothly as one would think.
  2. I have to carry them to the basement.
  3. I don't get to look at them or play with them on a daily basis.

As much as I love my Lego sets, I reckon storing them away in the basement for a while could have mind-clearing effects.

RK out.
