I mentioned a couple of weeks back that my Penthouse project - decorating our new home - is progressing quite slowly. I don't have nightstands or ceiling lamps or even curtains yet. I also need a cabinet under the bathroom sink. And I need to fix the towel rack.
Also what about walls? Should I paint the walls? And isn't that something one does before one begins barging in with the furniture?
To be fair, there are a few challenges that need to be solved before I can even see the vision properly:
- The divan we brought from the old place does not fit here. Absolutely and unequivocally. Light gray is NOT the vibe in the Penthouse. The frame is all right, though, so I could just order new draping for it. Then again, if I end up bringing the office sofa home, then perhaps I just need to figure out a handy way to get rid of the divan for good.
- We need more bookshelves. Especially now that all the books I had at the office are coming home, at least temporarily, the situation is quite desperate. The shelves of our existing bookcase are at their limits. So... do I build a nice corner library thingy with a doorway in the middle?
- Also - which wall is best for this one particular painting I wish to hang? I must decide, because...
- ...I also need to decide where to hang a TV in the bedroom, it canNOT stand on two separate chairs in the middle of the room forever -
- - and what about the wine cooler, I should build it in, it looks stupid just standing on the floor.
Luckily, I have plenty of time, which I will conveniently spend not fixing the issues above but dreaming about secondary priorities such as...
- Chandeliers - the specific design of which hasn't yet restocked, though I've waited for over a month already.
- Nightstands. This is turning out harder than I could have anticipated, due to the unorthodox height of our bed.
- Curtains, though it remains unclear if we even need them, as with venetian blinds, they would only function as decorations.
- The ideal placement of the Christmas tree.
- More storage space in the form of a Kallax wall, although to make it happen, I need to buy at least three new pieces (two 2x4 pieces and one 2x2 piece, costing about 180 euros altogether), and fast them together and into the wall.
Considering that I have all the time in the world now, I seem to be getting very little done about this project.
