As much as I wouldn't like to admit it, I love to travel. (Well, depending on whom I'm traveling with.) I see trips as adventures that force me outside my comfort zone and make me grow into a stronger, more confident, and more capable person. For example, I noticed a dramatic change in my identity and sense of ability when we came back from the Dominican Republic last October. I haven't been the same since, and indeed, because of that trip, my life has now changed irrevocably.
Looking into the future, here are some places I'd love to visit in the next few years, and why.
- Japan. I want to see the Akashi Kaikyo suspension bridge. It had the longest central span of any bridge in the world (1991 meters) until 2022, when 1915 Canakkale bridge surpassed it (2023 meters).
- Brazil. My husband and I have some friends there, and they've promised to take us to a local steakhouse if we ever come to visit. And you know me - I never say no to a steakhouse.
- Colorado. I hear the nature there is amazing. Also Ayn Rand paints a pretty picture of the state's industrious mentality in Atlas Shrugged. Also also they have a Casa Bonita there. (If you know, you know.)
- Bruges, Belgium. The place looks magical, at least in the excellent dark comedy movie from 2008, In Bruges.
- Lofoten Islands, Norway. Looking at pictures, it seems like the perfect place for a swim-hike combo.
And then, of course, I'd also like to revisit Iceland and Zandvoort and Zurich and Budapest and Prague and...
RK out.
