The pivotal moment in Breaking Bad season 1

Hello and welcome back to our series of RK becoming civilized by watching the movies and TV shows that everyone else has already seen. Last time I talked about  8 Mile. This time I'm proud to announce that I have finally reached the season 1 finale of the absolutely marvelous show, Breaking Bad.

Breaking Bad is a 5-season TV show about a low-income chemistry teacher who gets diagnosed with stage 3 cancer. Because he doesn't want to leave his family to struggle financially after his death, he begins to manufacture and sell methamphetamine.

Here are some thoughts:

  1. This is quickly becoming my new favorite TV show.
  2. The title refers to the protagonist Walter White's identity shift from that of a beta male to that of an alpha male (more than from a law-abiding citizen to a gangster criminal).
  3. The pivotal moment in Walter's character arc in season 1 happens when he shaves his head.

I love the idea of identity shift generally, and I adore the frame in which it happens in this show. Needless to say that I'm excited to move on to season 2 and see what kind of character development he goes through there.
