It's been a while since I did anything hard. July, I think. And then fall of 2021. I'm not too worried, though, because I know I have to do something hard this fall as well to earn Christmas.
But here's your Wednesday reminder: you can do hard things. What's more, you should do hard things. What's life without a little challenge?
The best two things in life are:
- progress, aka an upward trajectory, and
- the feeling you get as you reach a goal.
The two work nicely hand in hand, as 1 often leads to 2, and 2 last such a short time that you have to go back to 1. So, basically, a "best" life is an infinite cycle between working to become better at something, and achieving something meaningful.
If Sisyphus is happy, even if his happiness is illusory, who cares if he's stuck forever?
This is the part where I declare that today, I did something hard: I baked a pumpkin pie! (...while gloriously ignoring the fact that I only baked the pie to procrastinate with the actually hard thing I should be doing.)
RK
P.S. The pie smells so good it's distracting. (...which seems like a good enough excuse not to work.)
